    The El Paso City Council voted Tuesday to approve renaming the El Paso police headquarters after late police chief Gregory K. Allen. Allen's widow Roseanne Allen was present at the city council meeting as well as interim police chief Peter Pacillas. “Chief Allen was my friend. I had the highest respect for that man,” said council member Joe Molinar.

    Two people are in custody after a shooting at Cielo Vista Mall killed one person and left three others injured. Interim police Chief Peter Pacillas said the gunman was taken down quickly by an off-duty police officer who was working security at a store in the mall. He said the officer did not fire his weapon.     Body-worn cameras will now be a part of more El Paso Police Department officers’ uniforms. This comes after the City Council unanimously approved $6.6 million to purchase 792 body cams and 410 mobile video recorders last March. “I felt like it was essential El Paso police dept to be fitted with body cameras," said Henry Rivera, City Council member.

    A pair of pit bulls bit at least two people before an El Paso police officer shot and mortally wounded one of the dogs Sunday afternoon in a far East Side neighborhood, police said. The dog that was shot was not expected to survive. The shooting is under investigation, as is standard procedure with all officer-involved shootings, according to a police media statement.
